Perth’s Go-To for House Insulation

Home Insulation Perth - Retrofit & Upgrade for Existing Homes

Upgrade your Perth home's insulation. EIS removes old batts, installs Bradford products — cooler summers, warmer winters. Free quote, local team.

For existing Perth homes, EIS recommends R5.0–R6.0 ceiling insulation. Perth's average temperatures have risen 4°C since 1910 (Bureau of Meteorology). We assess your roof space, remove old or contaminated batts where needed, and install Bradford products — usually in a single visit.

HELPING PERTH'S EXISTING HOMES STAY COMFORTABLE WITH RETROFIT INSULATION SOLUTIONS.

If your home was built before 2003, there's a good chance the insulation is either below current NCC standards or has degraded over time. Perth's climate makes this more than a comfort issue - a roof space can reach 60°C in summer, and inadequate ceiling insulation means heat pushes directly into your living space.

EIS upgrades insulation in existing homes across all Perth metro suburbs. We handle the full process - assessment, removal of old or hazardous material, and Bradford replacement installation.

R-value guidance for Perth existing homes

Under NCC 2022 Climate Zone 5, these are the minimums — and what we actually recommend for Perth's climate:

Area of home NCC minimum (Zone 5) EIS Why
Ceiling R4.0 R5.0 – R6.0 Largest heat gain in Perth summers - biggest ROI
External walls R2.0 R2.5 Thermal performance + acoustic separation
Underfloor R1.5 R2.0 – R2.5 Suspended timber floors - heat loss + noise

REMOVE AND REPLACE, OR TOP UP?

The answer depends on the condition of your existing insulation — not just its age

Remove and replace - these situations require it

  • Water or storm damage - wet insulation loses all thermal value and promotes mould
  • Animal contamination - rodent or bird droppings, bacteria, parasites
  • Mould or deterioration - compacted, torn or blackened batts
  • Cool or Cosy material - pre-2000 hazardous product
  • Completely collapsed batts - compressed insulation = fraction of rated R-value

Top up is appropriate - if all of these are true

  • Existing batts are dry and fully intact
  • No contamination, mould or animal activity
  • Existing R-value is R2.0 or above
  • Insulation is less than 20 years old
  • No evidence of roof leaks in the cavity

FAQs - House insulation Perth

Answers to the Most Common Questions About Upgrading Your Home’s Insulation. Backed by expertise and installed to the highest standards.

  • What R-value insulation do I need for my existing Perth home?

For Perth ceilings we recommend R5.0 as a minimum and R6.0 where roof access allows. Perth sits in NCC Climate Zone 5 where summer roof temperatures regularly exceed 60°C. For external walls R2.5 is standard. For underfloor R2.0–R2.5 for suspended timber floors.

  • Does old insulation need to be removed before installing new insulation?

Not always. If existing batts are dry, intact and R2.0 or above, you can top up. Removal is necessary when insulation is water damaged, contaminated by rodents or birds, mouldy, or contains Cool or Cosy - a hazardous product used in pre-2000 Perth homes.

  • Does my Perth home have hazardous old insulation?

Possibly, if your home was built before 2000. Some older Perth homes contain insulation materials that have degraded, become contaminated with rodent droppings or bird mites, or were installed using products no longer considered safe. The government's Cool or Cosy programme identified this as a widespread issue in WA. EIS includes a roof cavity inspection as part of every assessment - we'll identify any contaminated or compromised insulation and advise whether removal is needed before new batts are installed. If removal is required, we handle it safely in the same visit.

  • Can I add new insulation on top of existing insulation?

Yes, if existing insulation is dry and intact. We assess the roof space first - checking for contamination, moisture damage and current R-value. If the material is compromised, removal first is the right call.

  • Is it worth upgrading insulation in an older Perth home?

Yes. According to Australian Government energy.gov.au, insulation reduces average home heating and cooling costs by around 30% and pays for itself in 3–5 years. In Perth, where average temps have risen 4°C since 1910 (Bureau of Meteorology), upgrading to R5.0–R6.0 is one of the most cost-effective home improvements available.

  • What type of insulation is best for an existing Perth home?

For ceilings in existing Perth homes, Bradford Gold glasswool batts at R5.0 or R6.0 are our standard recommendation. They're easy to install in existing roof spaces, perform well in Perth's Climate Zone 5, and are durable. For walls, R2.5 Bradford batts are standard. For underfloor in suspended timber homes, R2.0–R2.5 batts provide both thermal and acoustic benefits. EIS is a Bradford-approved installer - we'll recommend the right product for your specific home at quote stage.

"How to install home insulation on my own?"

We hear you, but here's the situation...

We love a good DIY, some jobs are best left to the professionals. If insulation isn't installed properly, it's not really worth having at all — and it can even become a fire hazard. We don't offer installation as a quick upsell, we genuinely care about the longevity of the product, the safety of your home, and doing a quality job.

So, when you're ready for home insulation that goes the distance, give EIS a call.
